God’s Little Acre offers a stimulating learning environment with strong Christian values to preschool-aged children. The preschool currently operates five days a week, offering classes for three and four-year-old children and is open to all families of the surrounding communities. The curriculum of this program is based on a combination of traditional teaching methods with an emphasis to “hand’s-on” learning, giving the children opportunities to use their five senses to learn.
The daily schedule consists of large group learning as well as center-time. Large-group learning is a time for children to learn basic skills. Center-time is when the children work and play independently or with small groups of friends at various centers; children are given chances to work on the computers, paint at an easel, write a story in the writing center, measure and pour in the sensory table, create a theme related art project, dance to music, climb on the jungle gym, build a tower and mix ingredients for a snack.

What we are working on:
We have been reading several Dr. Seuss books this week in honor of his birthday. The kids had the opportunity to try green eggs. We have been working on rhyming all week. The Dr. Seuss books provide excellent examples of rhyming. We will continue to work on rhyming all month. Rhyming is important to emergent literacy. It helps children with phonemic awareness, which leads to writing and reading readiness. Pick out several books with rhymes to read at home. It is so important to read to your child every day!
This week we are working on writing, sounding out and identifying the letter U. Your child can continue to bring a small item at the end of each week for our letter bucket. Please continue to practice writing, sounding out and identifying the letters of the alphabet at home. :)
We will be reading several nursing rhymes during the month of March. We will also celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with green snacks, leprechaun traps and rainbow crafts. We will talk about flowers and all things Spring as well.
**A fundraiser form was sent home this week. We are selling pastries and coffee. They are delicious. How ironic
that we are selling “sometimes” food right after my healthy eating unit. ;)
**Next Thursday 3/12 and Friday 3/13 we will have our pajama party for counting to 100. Please bring a ziplock bag with 100 of something for the kids to count and sort. (paper clips, marbles, cheerios, etc.)
As always, please contact me with any questions or concerns. 309/275-2403, firstname.lastname@example.org ~ Kelly Elgin
